Sense and Sensibility
German music of the middle of the 18th century was undergoing rapid stylistic change, with many composers caught up in the 'empfindsamer Stil' (sensitive style), aiming for expression of natural feelings in intimate and subjective ways. But the best of these composers remained strong contrapuntists, and so their writing still owes much to their Baroque roots. With rarely heard works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Carl Heinrich Graun and Georg Philipp Telemann, this elegant program will surprise and delight.
Presented by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Monday Lunch Hour Concert Series is kindly supported by the Cicely & Colin Rigg Bequest.
